Healing that works
at the root level
Saam Acupuncture is a 400-year-old Korean system that treats the underlying cause of your condition — not just where it hurts. At Raah Acupuncture in Koreatown, it is one of our core treatment methods.
Book a ConsultationA different kind of acupuncture
Most people think of acupuncture as needles placed at the site of pain — a sore shoulder, a stiff neck, a tight lower back. Saam Acupuncture works differently. Developed in 17th-century Korea by a Buddhist monk, it uses a small number of precisely selected points — often on the hands and feet — to shift the body's internal balance and restore its natural ability to heal.
Rather than chasing symptoms from point to point, Saam identifies the underlying imbalance driving your condition — and treats that. The result is a remarkably efficient system that often produces noticeable results in fewer sessions than conventional acupuncture.
At Raah Acupuncture, Saam is one of our primary treatment methods. It is what we know deeply, and for many of our patients it delivers the most consistent, lasting results.
"Saam treats the person, not the diagnosis. The same complaint in two different people may call for an entirely different approach — and that is the point."

Saam vs. conventional acupuncture
If you've tried acupuncture before and felt like it helped in the moment but didn't hold, or if you've never tried it and aren't sure what to expect — understanding the difference matters.
Treats where it hurts
Needles are typically placed at or near the site of pain or discomfort. Treatment protocols are often condition-based and relatively standardized. Results can be good, but may require frequent maintenance.
Treats why it hurts
A small number of points — chosen specifically for you — shift the body's underlying balance. The goal is lasting resolution, not just temporary relief. Each treatment is tailored to the individual, not the diagnosis.
More needles, broader coverage
Sessions often involve 10–20 or more needles placed across the body. The approach can feel thorough, but precision varies by practitioner and protocol.
Fewer needles, greater precision
Saam typically uses 4–8 needles per session, almost always on the hands or feet — away from the area of complaint. Less is more when the selection is correct.

What to expect at Raah Acupuncture
If you've never had acupuncture before — or if Saam is new to you — here's what a visit looks like.
A thorough conversation
We start by listening. Your main complaint, your history, your sleep, digestion, energy, and emotional state all give us information about your underlying pattern.
A precise treatment
Based on your pattern, we select a small number of points — usually on your hands or feet. The needles are fine and most patients find the sensation minimal.
Rest and release
You rest comfortably for 20–30 minutes while the treatment takes effect. Many patients notice a shift during the session itself — a sense of relaxation or release.
